I am a PhD student at TU Wien, advised by Prof. Stefan Neumann. I develop algorithms with provable fairness guarantees for data science problems such as clustering. Provable guarantees are not just theoretically interesting — they give regulators something more concrete to point to than "trust us", which leads to better technology policy and, I'd argue, a more just society.
Previously, I earned my MSc in Artificial Intelligence at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, graduating as valedictorian. My thesis (directed by Prof. Carlos Castillo) contributed the first algorithm for accurately determining post-release outcomes, making recidivism risk assessments more accurate, fair, and interpretable throughout prisons in Catalonia. This algorithm has been adopted by the state government to compute recidivism statistics.
If you're interested in a gentle introduction to algorithmic fairness, you may have a look at the programming exercises I developed for the FATE Course offered at UPF.
